Azkena

After leaving a reasonable amount of our budget in Decathlon, we headed to Gasteiz.
2 seconds! and let's rock and roll!!!
3 days, 2 stages, 26 bands and a perfect weather. what else could we ask for?
The festival started up with a local band : Sharon Stoner, who, dispite the burning sun, made a powerful performance.
Then it was Guarro's turn, a flamenco guitar player with his cockney band, singing à la Jack Black, and enjoying that the crowd would call him "dirty", as his granma did.
The Young Fresh Fellows, kept up the good mood with their peculiar Seattle style. Young they may be not, but oh so fresh!... and crazy. Drummer had some kind of bouncing gong that he hit and then avoided dangerously while playing, and occasionnaly climbed on the instrument as it was some kind of stunt. The songs they played were funny (they were singing about some stud stuck up an anus and some weird stuff), or more serious, like a song supporting seattle prostitutes. Then, all of the sudden they start playing a blues (a "real one, as seattle is home of the blues, it was actually born right there, in the middle of the delta").
The Waterboys, with their irish, scottish, whatever, sleepy folk, killed the athmosphere :S and then we went to wait for Iggy and the Stooges, while Green on Red were playing on the other stage.
The performance was stunning! that 60-year-old had an incredible energy, and seem capable of anything! the Iguana of rock shook the audience with tunes like "no fun", i wanna be your dog", but strangely no "lust for life" or "passenger", and shocked everyone when he invited people to come on stage! apparently he already did it in some other gigs, but as I was not aware of that, I tought it was an impro, and found it terrific!
The band was also great, remaining calm while Iggy was on fire.
Then came the Misfits, with a good intro (theme song from halloween), but it's definetly not my type of music. horrible!
Next day, after a tour in the nice town of Gasteiz, having local drinks and food, bumping into the artists, doing the same ritual as us, and spotting other festival guys thanks to the flashy bracelets we had, we missed the first band, and had better also missed the second: Marah. too too boyfriend-of-Kate-Moss to me, and stupid enough to hold a Spanish flag in the middle of the Basque Country!
We went then to wait for Selim´s fav´: Eagles of death metal. (mitaaaaal!)
and it was goddam worth waiting! excellent performance that Jesse "sexy" Hughes and his guys offered us!althought Josh was not there, it rocked ass!!"Peace, love, death metal and hair combing on stage with an incredible narcissism proper of the guy and wich makes him worth the alias.
(to be continued..petit a petit....the best is yet to come)
